starting at midday the artist proceeded to tattoo himself with from his shins to his ankles with patterns and images from his own artworks. the artist sat in front of his recent artwork comprised of twelve squares with images that echoed those he was tattooing. a video to his left played found footage whilst the artist also recited at poem allowed at intervals throughout the performance.
Maria Sowter – ‘all the roses in the world and you’d still be hungry’
a poem for England
Doan Thanh Toan – ‘Một hai ba chín bốn mươi’ / ‘One, Two, Thirty Nine and then some’
Here, the human life is as valued as a human-sized plastic bag. Interacting with Cian Duggan’s artwork “OtherMother” in the garden area of MoT space, the performance is both a mourning and a protest against the conditions that make Viet lives precarious, including “modernity,” capitalism, and widening inequality.

the artist circled her head with plastic wrap whilst standing on the river pier. the wrap became more and more tangled over the course of the performance, becoming like strings and getting caught in the wind.
Do Nguyen Lap-Xuan – [Speaking piece 02] [Speaking piece 02] is the second version in a vocal series of my doctoral art-based research interrogating the subject ‘I’ and its ‘Voice’. The performative experimentation examines linguistic sensitivity through the multiple senses of meaning in the sound of ‘I’. In the sonic space, the speakers carry their culture and idea, and the listeners interpret it according to their background and confront the meaning of that given word.
*Each version is contextually designed.
*[speaking piece 01] was performed in INSEA World congress, July 2019, UBC Vancouver.
Flinh – ‘Applause to all’
wearing latex gloves filled with gloves the artist moved from the outside to the inside space of MoT+++ clapping her hands, giving, as the title suggests, ‘Applause to all’.
the artist appropriated the form of the artist talk by inviting the audience to ask him questions on any topics, private and professional. the talk ended with the artist spray painting the words ‘fuck (fine) art’ and ‘fuck capitalism’ onto the wall.
the artist set up MoT+++’s back room with a single canvas and paint that was only visible using UV light. the room was opened three times for a select group of people: male, female and other. the audience was asked to read instructions before entering the room that asked them to use the paint to create something on the canvas that reflected on the thought of gender for them. each group that entered were unable to see the marks made the by the other groups.
Cam Xanh – ‘Chao 9 #2’
ChaoArt|ArtChao is a recurring performance from Cam Xanh with serving help from invited guest artists for each edition. Chao 9 #2 was served with the help of guest artist Lananh Le.
