performance plus 2019
Lap-Xuan (b.1986) is a mix-media artist and social practitioner born in Saigon. She holds a Bachelor degree of Visual communication from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Singapore) and a Master of Art from the University of New South Wales (Australia). Her works embody poetic fragments—of words, visualisation, movement and sound—across the themes of identity, displacement, marginalisation, and liminality.
In 2018 she was awarded the UNSW Scientia PhD Scholarship to pursue her art-based research in social pedagogy. Approaching socially-engaged and performative practices as a personal philosophical quest, Lap-Xuan interrogates how language, silence and the in-between of institutional representations of communication, have driven some of the ways we perceive limitations of Voice.
