MoT sound reaches double-digits!

the second MoT sound instalment of 2019, aNoise explored a variety of approaches to noise art – an eclectic mix of artists from different backgrounds and practices who somehow share similar textures in their work.

Arnont Nongyao incorporates a variety of DIY creations into a Calder-esque feedback looping machine working between audiovisual elements, physical movement, light triggered sound, sound triggered light, conjuring a mini worldscape of experience. • • • has spent many years delving deep into the possibilities of coding as a sound design tool, building his own virtual environments to create a breed of harsh noise with an always unique, ever-emerging complexity. Huong DoNa is a young sound artist based in Hanoi who explores objects as soundscape creating devices, employing a variety of materials to explore a deep range of acoustic textures.

more on the artists:

Arnont Nongyao
Arnont Nongyao has been interested and research into sound with concentration on vibration, so most of his works are differently experimental and relative to vibration searching for the value of vibration derived from connected things, such as human beings, objects and society. his works are involved in a specific space and audience’s participation. they are also connected with the mode of listening/hearing in a social situation, and with how people interact with and participate in sound. Arnont is Co-Director of CMC (Chiang Mai Collective) with Thatchatham Silsupan, that is a group of sound artists & musician working on sound art & experimental music in Chiangmai. www.arnontnongyao.com

for the last decade, the being behind the soundless moniker • • • a.k.a. Nikola H. Mounoud processes analog, digital and hybrid feedbacks in real time to produce unique, powerful and highly dynamic live performances where irresponsible noise, weird sonic blasts, total non-sense and strong irrationality meets. between neo-composed scores and prepared improvisation, the listener absorbs the unleashed raw beauty of the musical wrath. for more details, here is a good start: http://ooo.meovco.com

Huong DoNa
based in Hanoi, Huong DoNa is a regular face among the Hanoi sound art scene, often performing both solo and with collaborative projects. a member of Dom Dom collective, Huong has participated in many experiments along with other Vietnamese and international artists at Heritage Space, Goethe Institute, Phu Sa Lab, and elsewhere. her solo set was a highlight of the New Music Festival 2018 opening event, and she recently completed her solo marathon at A Space, performing a piece in which she encaged herself within a giant sound generating birdcage as a deep meditation on the relation between freedom and entrapment in the creation process of a work of art.
