For the month of May, former MoT+++ staff writer Maria Sowter will return to take on a new role in the performance ‘Researcher-in-Residence’.

Maria will utilize the MoT+++ space as a base from which to confront questions concerning the lack of criticality in writing about Vietnamese contemporary art, as well as to consider the relationships of Vietnamese artists—between each other and outsiders—and their place in the global art world. By inviting artists and audiences alike into the academic conversation, Maria hopes to de-privilege the conventional centres of knowledge production and create a hybrid form of academic and artistic work.

Maria will be at MoT+++ most days throughout her residency, and members of the public are welcome to drop in and engage her in conversation and debate regarding the state of Vietnamese art today. The results of this research will be used to form the final thesis submission for her MA in Arts Society from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.

If you are coming to visit Maria, please email her at mariasowter@gmail.com to confirm she will be there when you arrive.

Location: Ground floor, Saigon Domaine, 1057 Bình Quới, Ward 28, Bình Thạnh District, Saigon, Vietnam.
